The Impact of Animation on Children’s Education

1.Prepare

Abstract
With the development of animation, it is widely used in advertising, games movies, etc., among which children are a very important audience, However, when it comes to children’s education, animation has many positive and negative effects. This paper attempts to analyze the impact of animation on children’s education through the study of the representation of animation. Then I will explore how to apply educational animation to everyday media to promote children’s development.

Literature review

Adequate evidence has established that animation has both positive and negative effects on children’s education. One systematic review suggests that animation has a positive impact on children’s language learning. However, the study still has certain limitations regarding comparison of brief animations and static pictures, and the evidence of receptive language is not conclusive(1). Meanwhile, one study compared the impact of static images and animation on knowledge acquisition, and found that animation has a more significant advantage in enhancing learners’ visual attention(2). A study conducted on 698 children showed that animation can serve as a symbol to enhance understanding(3). When retelling videos and books, surveys showed that videos had a more significant improvement in children’s memory(4). On the other hand, animation also has a negative impact on children’s education. Some animations use details such as color and environment to reflect psychological problems such as depression, which may affect children’s mental health(5). More than two-thirds of G-rated animated films depict at least one scene of using tobacco or alcohol without describing the consequences, which may bring potential psychological implications to children (6).

2.Tutorial Feedback

For each question, I need to check which literature will support it. When searching for literature, I need to expand the keywords. For example, if I want to search for autism, I need to search for specific types of autism. Or I can search for expanded concepts such as mental health. I need to expand the vocabulary search and expand the references. Regarding the positive and negative effects, which one is greater, I need to summarize it in the last chapter. The question I raised is about the word count requirement for the abstract, because I wrote a lot the first time and kept cutting it. I need to finish the whole article before summarizing it. The previous one is just a simple summary, and I need to keep expanding it.

3.Literature support

In this section, I will record my reading process and summarize and extract the key points I need.

6.Process Summary

In the process of completing the final report. First of all, I am a non-native English speaker, which is a challenge for me. I don’t know some standard terms and grammar about the paper. In the process of writing, I improved my understanding of the language. Secondly, regarding the content of my article, I consulted a lot of literature to support my point of view. I need to summarize and extract the knowledge points I need. In this process, I gained a lot of knowledge about children’s psychology and animation creation. Finally, the improvement of critical thinking, I need to think about whether the content of the literature is reasonable and whether it can support my argument. And reversely think about some of the views of the literature, put forward and summarize them in my paper.
